Sarah Palin, the one-time Vice Presidential candidate on the bottom of the ticket, literally underneath John McCain, has announced today she will resign. Lt. Governor Sean Parnelli will assume control of the largest state in the union (by size) and the 47th largest state (by population).
Palin did not give a reason for her resignation, although Fox News reported it would permit her to be able to run for President three years from now, without having the burden of being both governor and candidate.
Fox News may have a point. After all, I can’t think of a single Governor who ran for President while still in office. Can’t think of a single one. Unless you consider Romney, Huckabee, Bush, Clinton, Carter, and Richardson. But then again, only three of those won.
And they were governors of real states, not ice-filled miniature planet Hoths.
Time will tell if Palin uses the old excuse of wanting to spend more time with her family, possibly to prevent Willow from getting knocked up by age 17.
Palin is now the third Repbulican governor to be rocked by scandal in as many weeks.
